My Favorite Pet

My Favorite Pet is...

...my Japanese Akita. I got him from a breeder when he was only just a couple of months old. The whole family instantly fell in love with him. We even took around a whole day to give him a name. We settled on the name Hogo which means protection or protector in Japanese. Honestly I felt as though my family was not prepared in the slightest to take care of a pet as this was our first real pet (not counting fish). We had barely any experience and we at first lacked the tools to supply him. We first, as a small puppy, let him roam in a section of the house that was easy to monitor. But as he grew larger and larger, he required a much larger area to reside in. Placing him in the backyard was the best option.

The History of my Favorite Pet

The Japanese Akita breed dates back all the way to ancient Japan. This breed was the dog of choice for many samurais who needed a loyal companion. Even to this day the Japanese Akita breed is loved by others and still gives that feeling of safety to its owners. Akitas are generally described as being aloof towards strangers but extremely affectionate towards its family members.
